Consultant: Joseph LoPiccolo, Ph.D., Producer: Mark Schoen, Ph.D. 1984; 30 minutes.
The film opens as a woman tells her partner about the gynecology appointment she's had earlier in the day. She explains that the gynecologist diagnosed her condition as "vaginismus" and has referred them for sex therapy. The film proceeds in the therapist's office with an anatomical explanation of vaginismus. Subsequent sessions introduce the use of dilators in this type of therapy and explains how the woman is to use them in the privacy of her home. Scenes shift between the private sexual sessions at home and the therapist's office. The therapist reviews their progress and provides them with guidelines for home sessions. The film's conclusion shows the couple engaged in intercourse.
This video describes in detail the traditional behavioral approach to treating Vaginismus. The presentation is realistic and is explicit.
This 30 minute instuctional DVD costs only $19.95 plus postage.

TOO BIG
A Guide for Coping when Pain Replaces Pleasure
by
Robert W. Birch, Ph.D.
Retired Sex Therapist
![]()
It is no laughing matter when intercourse is painful. When there is discomfort and not erotic pleasure, anxiety builds and additional problems might develop, such as the unconscious tightening of the muscles surround the vaginal opening (a condition known as vaginismus). Quite often, however, a tight vagina is not the problem, it is the size of the penis. Bigger is not always better and sometimes there is not a comfortable fit because the penis is too long, too thick or both.
There are ways to cope, adjustments that can be made and alternatives to be explored. This low cost book costs only $8.95, plus $5.00 for Priority Mail shipment, but it is worth a million if there has been pain, anxiety and avoidance.
A quick and easy way to order from this site is to email your order to Dr. Birch at birchbarks@aol.com and ask that he email you a PayPal Invoice. You can then make your payment directly through your PayPal program.
